9/22 SNAP Day of Action

September 22, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Free

Will 80,000 more go hungry?

More than 80,000 people in Illinois will lose food stamp benefits, unless the Rauner administration asks to renew a waiver of ‘welfare reform’ limits. According to senior staff at IL Department of Human Services, the administration is not planning to ask for a renewal of the waiver.

Under Clinton-era ‘welfare reform,’ persons called ‘able bodied adults without dependents’ can only get SNAP benefits for 3 months over a 3 year period. Illinois and other states have gotten a waiver of that limit, but the waiver expires September 30 unless an extension is requested.

Alliance for Community Services leaders believe that adequate food, and health care, and living wages, and education, are human rights, and these groups are working together to put people before profit, and ‘HUMAN’ into services!

Sign the petition here and demand that Governor Rauner sign the waiver!
