Brown and Black Power Hold Vigil: Chicago Supports #NoDAPL

September 8, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

As Chicagoans begin to answer a national call to support the Native Water Protectors of Standing Rock, North Dakota, we ask that you to join us Thursday at 6pm, for a riverside vigil. As Indigenous, Black and Black-Indigenous femmes, we have tried to build at the intersections of Brown and Black power — and struggle — in our communities. We know that many of you have done the same.

So in the spirit of the solidarity we have worked to build in our city, we ask that our friends and co-strugglers join us on Thursday, as we create imagery in support of our co-strugglers on the frontlines of #NoDAPL.

This is just one of the moments of solidarity being planned in Chicago right now and we hope you wil able be able to attend this event at 4pm on Friday as well: https://www.facebook.com/events/505840502947012/

Please consider organizing your own vigils, actions and events in the coming days and weeks, as the Water Protectors have asked for global acts of solidarity between September 3-17.

We hope you can join us Thursday night, as we envision a world where water is protected, and where abolition, restoration and reparation find their full expression.

Participating organizations: Lifted Voices and Black Lives Matter: Chicago

Note: People of all racial identities are welcome at this event, but we ask that you respect the leadership of those most impacted by the issues at hand.
