No More Copaganda – the Dangers of Community Watch

June 2, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Who’s watching your community? More than 26 organized community watch programs are operating in Chicago, from West Ridge’s “yellow jackets” program, to block clubs, to “positive loitering” — and more.

But most don’t know these racist “safety” programs are funded and organized by the Chicago Police Department’s Office of Community Policing, which has a $5.3 million annual budget.

Join Reclaim Chicago North Chapter’s Pop Ed Program for an exploration of Chicago’s community watches, how they’re funded, and what residents can do to challenge them!

This teach-in is being offered in coordination with organizers from CLAW Chicago League of Abolitionist Whites, who have been researching and educating about the dangers & racism of community watch programs as part of their “No More Copaganda” project! This is the third time this workshop has been offered, since it launched in March 2018. Co-Sponsored by 50th Ward Action Network.
